Drum shaped pendant lights made of cloth should be put in the living room. This is because the cloth material collects dust easily. Putting them in a living room or common area makes cleaning easy with a quick dusting. Plastic is the most cost effective, but they are prone to discolouration over time. Use plastic in corners and nooks that are not highly trafficked in order to make them last longer. This material makes them perfect for a pendant grouping that serves as an aesthetic home feature.
Glass pendant lights cast off more light than a fabric shaded counterpart. The light can be further altered by the color of the glass used in the fixture. Some glass lights come with opaque or transparent shades that will control the direction of the light. But others are clear, allowing the light to shine through, increasing the beauty and effectiveness of the lights. One of the best things about glass pendants is that they can be artistic as well as functional. If youre a fan of Dale Chihuly, you can get fiery colored lamps or lamps that look like flowers or other sculptural shapes that will work wonderfully in an entryway or in a stairwell.
If your lights dont have a lens, you may find that glare is a problem, particularly with mini pendant lights that use higher intensity bulbs. Speaking of bulbs, mini pendants are available with incandescent, halogen and energy saving compact fluorescent lights. Using a dimmer can help you get the most out of whichever bulb you choose. Installing dimmers is easy and you can do it yourself without having to call in an electrician if youre simply replacing an existing light. You want to start by shutting off the power to the room on the circuit box.
A pendant light, which is also sometimes referred to as a suspender or drop, is a single light that is hung from the ceiling and suspended by a long electrical cord where electric current is supplied to light up the bulb, which may either be made of fluorescent or incandescent. Although there is a minor disadvantage in using a pendant glow instead of a regular lighting fixture (the illumination that the pendant glow emits is limited), the advantages brought about by its use far outweighs the single nuisance of luminosity limitation.
Ideally, you want to use a circuit tester to make sure the power is off to the light before touching the wiring. Assuming the power is off, start by removing the old fixture. If youre replacing a ceiling fan with a pendant, remove the blades first. It makes the process much easier. Remove the plastic wire nuts from the wires, disconnect the wires, then remove the mounting bracket. Replace the bracket with the new bracket that came with the light. Once the bracket is installed, its time to connect the wires. Follow the diagram that came with the light.
